Throw Out That Razor! Discover the Top 5 Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

    Last updated 2 years ago

If you’re like most people, any excuse not to shave is a welcome one. Perhaps you’ve heard of laser hair removal? As one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, laser hair removal continues to get more popular by the day amongst both women and men. So what is it about laser hair removal that has people flocking to their plastic surgeon?

    ?     Safe, Permanent Solution
The vast majority of patients, some studies indicate as high as 90%, experience permanent unwanted hair loss after between three and five sessions.

    ?     Fast Procedure
Laser hair removal is a very fast, outpatient procedure. With the largest areas taking only up to an hour, you can schedule laser hair removal without disrupting the rest of your life. Smaller areas, such as the upper lip, can be done in merely a few minutes, meaning you can pop in during your lunch hour.

    ?     Virtually Painless
Unlike razor burn, laser hair removal is virtually painless. Some patients report a slight sting during the procedure, and a small number of patients take pain medication for a few days afterwards. Compared to razor burn for the rest of your life, it works out in your favor.

    ?     Targeted Removal
Laser hair removal is a highly precise procedure, in addition to being quick and painless. Unlike electrolysis, laser hair removal selectively targets hair, instead of targeting hair and skin.

    ?     No More Excuses
Instead of inventing any excuse you can not to shave, you just won’t have to.

These are just a few of the many benefits of laser hair removal. People across the country are ditching their razors for good and getting in to their plastic surgeon’s office. If never shaving or buying another razor again sounds good to you, give the Michael Horn Center for Cosmetic Surgery to set up an appointment.

    Restylane vs. Botox

    Last updated 2 years ago

With dermal injectables, such as Restylane and Botox, making up such a large percentage of the procedures that plastic surgeons perform, it’s unfortunate that many people don’t know the differences between the two.

Aiming to do the same thing, reducing the signs of aging, Restylane and Botox go about it in totally different ways.

    ?     How Botox Works
Botox is, famously, a protein derivative of botulinum toxin. It is injected into the fine lines and wrinkles of the face to eliminate frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead creases, and crow’s feet. It can also be used to treat moderate to severe lines on the neck. Studies show that Botox can also help in the correction of nasolabial folds, underneath the lower lip, or in the treatment of vertical creases above the upper lip. Nonetheless, the treatment of these areas with Botox is not very common.

Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles underneath the skin, allowing the muscles to relax and give skin a smoother surface to rest on.

    ?     How Restylane Works
Restylane, while also an injectable, accomplishes the same types of results a little differently. Restylane is a natural hyaluronic acid gel, which is a fancy way of saying it is a natural product similar to collagen. It works by giving the skin more volume in order to eliminate wrinkles. It is mainly used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds around the mouth such as:

    • laugh lines (nasolabial folds)
    • marionette lines (the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jawline)
    • lipstick lines (creases above the upper lip)
    • Corners of the mouth

    Which is Right For You?
Your plastic surgeon can discuss your options with you, but ultimately the decision is up to you. Each procedure has its own benefits. Discuss which option is best for you with your plastic surgeon, instead of just getting the “trendy” procedure regardless of whether or not it is right for you.

Botox and Restylane procedures are cheap enough that shopping around for the best-qualified plastic surgeon is the best way to go about it.

What You Can Expect From a Chemical Peel

    Last updated 2 years ago

The chemical peel is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the country; with over half a million peels done every year.

While many people understand the procedure and what to expect, many people who can benefit from a chemical peel don’t get them because they aren’t aware of the benefits.

Before getting a chemical peel, however, there are a few things you should expect.

    ?     Before the Peel
Before getting a chemical peel, it is important to prepare your skin for the procedure. Your plastic surgeon may have you stop using certain medications, and may start you on a preconditioning system to help prepare your skin for the peel. Additionally, your plastic surgeon will go over the risks and benefits of each type of peel and help you decide if you want a chemical peel.

    ?     During the Peel
Depending on the type of chemical peel you get, the procedure can change drastically. Some lighter peels can be done at your plastic surgeon’s office in as little as 15 or 20 minutes. Deeper peels may require general anesthesia at an out-patient facility.

    ?     After the Peel
Similarly, your recovery time will vary depending on the type of chemical peel you receive. It may be possible to resume normal activities the same day with a lighter peel; heavier peels can have longer recovery times from 7 days to 3 weeks. Regardless, using a broad-spectrum sunblock after the procedure will help limit sun damage and preserve the results of your chemical peel.

Advances in cosmetic surgery have made chemical peels a safe, easy way to reduce the signs of aging and acne. Qualified, board-certified plastic surgeons can make your chemical peel as worry-free as possible.
