How to Take Care of Your Breasts after Breast Enhancement Surgery

    Last updated 1 year ago

Breast enhancement surgery is an outpatient procedure, which means that following the surgery, you’ll be sent home and given a list of instructions on how to care for your breasts. The following is an explanation of a few of the instructions you’ll receive:

    Remove the Dressings

Roughly 24 hours after your breast augmentation surgery, you can remove the dressings previously applied by your plastic surgeon or nursing staff. However, don’t remove the skin tapes, as these help hold your incisions in place. Once the dressings have been removed, you can take a shower. Your plastic surgeon will likely recommend that you avoid soaking in the tub or lounging in sitting water, so wait until you feel well enough to stand in the shower before bathing.

    Wear a Soft Bra

In most cases, your surgeon will provide you with a soft, post-surgical bra. It is very important that you don’t wear an under wire bra, as this could interfere with the results of your surgery. If your cosmetic surgeon does not supply you with a bra, he or she will give you a bandage to wear instead. You should keep this bandage wrapped snugly around you at all times except when you’re bathing. Without this support, your implants could shift, creating an unsuccessful result.

    Massage the Breasts

Between one and three weeks after your breast augmentation surgery, your plastic surgeon will recommend that you begin massaging your breasts. He or she will show you techniques for proper massaging. Massaging can help prevent capsular contracture in which the tissues surrounding the new implants harden, causing an unnatural look and feel. Massaging is also used to help the implants settle into a more natural-looking position.

    Breast Augmentation Basics

    Last updated 1 year ago

Breast augmentation surgeries are some of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in America. Many women desire fuller, larger breasts to help create a better contour. If you’re unsatisfied with the shape or position of your breasts, consider undergoing a breast augmentation surgery:

    • The Right Size Implant

When choosing your desired implant size, don’t make a decision based on media or recommendations from others. Instead, consider your plastic surgeon’s recommendations. An experienced surgeon can be trusted to offer advice that is based on the proportions of your body.

    • Types of Implants

Once you’ve decided how big you want to go, you will need to decide on the material for your implants. Silicone implants feel like jelly-filled water balloons, and they are a common choice for many women, because they offer a natural look and feel.

Saline implants, on the other hand, are similar to water-filled bras. The saline solution is similar to salt water, making it completely safe for your body should the implant rupture. While less likely to provide a natural look and feel, many women choose saline, because it is less likely to rupture.

    • Implant Placement

Subglandular implants are placed on top of the muscle, right below the breast tissue. This type of breast augmentation allows for easier access should your cosmetic surgeon need to perform a subsequent operation. Since this type of procedure does not disturb the muscles, recovery lengths tend to be shorter, and patients generally feel less discomfort.

Submuscular implants are placed under the pectoral muscle, which is best for women who have small breasts and relatively thin skin. This provides more padding between the implant and the skin, decreasing rupture risk. Submuscular implants also help conceal rippling, creating a more natural look and feel.

Are You A Good Candidate For A Tummy Tuck?

    Last updated 1 year ago

A tummy tuck can be one of the most dramatic and efficient solutions to slimming your midsection, especially if liposuction or exercising isn’t working for you. Unfortunately, not all cosmetic procedures are right for everyone. Considerations such as body type or health disorders can affect your ability to get a tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty. Here are some factors that make people a good candidate for this procedure:

    Motherhood

Pregnancy is a wonder, but not for your abdomen. During pregnancy, your skin and muscles stretch and, especially after multiple pregnancies, are sometimes impossible to slim through diet and exercise. In this case, if you are healthy, then you are a perfect candidate for a tummy tuck - it will restore your muscle and skin tightness from before the pregnancy.

    Significant Weight Loss

Whether you simply dieted and exercised with great results or you got medical help to rid yourself of excess fat, losing a lot of weight often leaves behind saggy muscles and skin, something that exercise cannot correct. In this case, a tummy tuck is beneficial, as it will give you the body that you worked so hard for.

    Aging

Despite good-faith efforts to exercise and eat properly, the fact is that with age your body may not respond as well as it used to. A tummy tuck can have restorative effects, as it will give your abdomen some of the slimness and youthful qualities that it once had.

If you fall into any of the above categories and are interested in a tummy tuck, then visit Dr. Michael A. Horn for more information. Along with abdominoplasty, Dr. Horn offers a wide range of cosmetic procedures and specializes in breast augmentation. Make an appointment today by calling (312) 202-9000.
